5 Traits that a Safety & Risk Management Software Has that are similar to an Occupational Safety and Health Professional (That Makes Their Relationship Symbiotic and Beneficial to your Organization)

In this day and age, Symbiotic Relationships in the workplace can be simplified or defined in my opinion as: “a type of corporate interaction between people, groups, departments or companies that work interdependently with each other to be able to get a job or task done seamlessly and productively.” Though the factors surrounding what was mentioned prior have many differences present in some areas, the goal and end game is somewhat the same: THE URGENCY TO PRODUCE RESULTS.

In my view, we can also apply corporate partnerships or relationships in the workplace that can be considered Symbiotic in forms of: Business to Business, Person to Group, Company to Product, Software to Product, Software to Company, and even Person to Software or vice versa.

Oh yes, you heard it. Software. Think Ironman and JARVIS. Their relationship has proven that they can seamlessly achieve their goal of saving the world (with the help of the other AVENGERS, of course.). Now that I have laid it out to you in a way that we can all relate to, I think it is important to remember that in keeping a symbiotic relationship in the workplace - especially in Safety, Health and Risk Management team of one’s organization - we have to be sure that the Management Software you provide to your Physical workforce or Safety Officers are as reliable and the same when it comes to their attributes, traits or programming as your Digital Workforce (Safety Management Software).

Here are 5 traits seen in your Safety Officers that your Safety Management Software should have to create a Symbiotic relationship in the workplace and produce the needed results for your organization:

1.    Comprehensiveness- Your software should have the complete understanding in the job that it is programmed to do. It should have all the right modules, capabilities and coding to execute automated tasks that the physical workforce wishes to be done easily. A good example is the capability to understand all the data and metrics recorded in your HIRAC, JHA, Incident or Risk Management and Hazard Prevention to be able to display and interpret it in your dashboard automatically and accurately for easy reference of the Safety officer in need. (Check out this link to see what I mean: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HBbQsgxapeM&t=100s)

2.    Resilience- The ability to recover quickly from any troubled situation or to withstand it should also be seen in both the Software and the Safety Officer. When things go south, your software should be capable still of recovering data, information, and metrics that the Safety Officers need. Online or Offline, it should still be very much capable of carrying out or continuing the tasks it has been programmed to do with minimal help from your Safety Team no matter the hurdles.

3.     Adaptability - Our Safety Officers are able to adapt or adjust to new conditions when needed. In today’s conditions where COVID-19 Pandemic has stretched and modified working conditions into Work-from-Home set-ups and socially-distanced in nature, your Safety Software should have capabilities to be accessed anytime, anywhere. Modified use should be available as well to accommodate the use of Phones, Tablets, Laptops or desktops without having to compromise capabilities. If there are, it should be minimal as to still manage what needs to be done effectively. (RethinkEHS-Safety Management Software is Comprehensive, Resilient and Adaptable! 4.    Proactiveness -. Controlling or preventing something to happen that can negatively affect the organization, or can be a hindrance in achieving results, should always be a TOP PRIORITY.  The same applies to workplace Health and Safety Hazards as well as Risks. This should always be prevented from increasing or becoming worse. Your Software must be capable to remind you of existing Hazards and Risks needed to be managed based on the metrics and data present in your Safety Software. Such as Expiration of permits, contract renewals, and even debt payments that may have heavy business impact if paid late. Your company can save more from preventing something to get worse than just having to react from it once it has already made the damage/s.

5.    People-First Mentality - For most obvious reasons. I mean, People rely on more Solutions for less complications in their tasks. Your Software should help alleviate the stress found in the manual way of managing Safety than the automated or digitalized one all in all. If you put your people or physical workforce first by having your software lessen stress in handling day to day tasks, they are bound to be more productive thus achieving more quality of work, garnering ideal results and obtaining work-life-balance. Just like how Safety Officers put people’s safety and health first, your software should accommodate that mentality or capability as well.

If you think about it really, your Safety Professional’s traits are the Standard that is being followed on how a Safety Management Software should be programmed to ensure that it will be as reliable and beneficial to your team and organization. This shows that a Safety Management Software and Safety Officer are at its best when they both are present in one’s organization or company. After all, ‘Two heads are better than one’. So don’t be afraid to RETHINK all possibilities and good results this can bring to your company. Both parties provide your organization the urgency to produce results that help make Safety and Risk Management done to your people, environment and business Accurately, Easily, and Seamlessly.
