Employers are required by law to keep workplaces safe, under the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration. Security measures should be instituted by employers so that only authorized employees have access to the workplace.

Identification

Safety hazards are greater when companies do not have control over who accesses their worksite. Some work environments make it easy for intruders to access employees or personal records and commit acts that endanger the workforce. Consequently, companies should institute safety systems that help identify authorized workers. ID badges are an effective way for employers to keep track of who is supposed to be there.

Security

Installing security systems and alarms is useful for alerting employers of trespassers and intruders. Employees who have access to a worksite are given codes for the security system, but people who attempt to access a worksite without the code will set off the alarm.

Guards

Security guards can be hired by employers to patrol the grounds of the work environment, thereby enhancing the safety of those who work at the company. With a security guard on the premises, people cannot access the workplace without permission. Accordingly, this is an effective way to protect workers from intruders.
