While men and women are suppose to be treated equally in the workplace this is not always the case. Many people still feel that there are certain jobs a woman shouldn’t do. Since there are laws preventing employers from discrimination any woman that is qualified to do the job can be hired for it. There are certain health and safety issues that are valid for women workers. Men and women are different physically and this physical difference can be a concern in the workplace. Don’t get me wrong I am all for women in the workplace but I just want them to be safe. A women’s health and safety workplace issues can be drastically different than a mans.

Facts About Women’s Health And Safe At Work
There have been surveys done over the years to get an idea on how women are treated by men in the workplace. Some of the finds are shocking. While others are sadly expected and often left to go unnoticed.

1.30% of women at work lack the proper knowledge and training it takes to get their job done safely. Most women reported that the men were often showed little tricks or tips on getting the job done quickly and safely but they were left out.

2.Many women fear losing their job if they become pregnant and often hid the fact from bosses and co-workers. The stress of hiding a pregnancy and the heavy work load could potential cause problems for the woman or her unborn child.

3.Most protective gear is made for men. They are often made bigger lay different than they would on a womens body. Often wearing safety gear that is ill fitted is just as bad as not wearing any at all.

4.A staggering 80% of women have incountered work sites with poor bathroom facilities or in some cases none at all are available for women workers. This causes many women to either hold it when they have to go to the bathroom or forego drinking fluids to avoid the need to use the restroom. These are both dangerous since holding it can cause bladder problems and not drinking can cause dehydration.

5.88 % of women stated they were the victim of some type of workplace sexual harassment. Wether it was comments, unwanted touching,stares or more physical contact. Men in jobs such as contruction,welding and mining often feel that a women does not belong there. This causes many but not all men to act out. First with in appropriate comments about gender than sexual comments. This can even lead to physical altercations if the employer does not step in to stop the assults.

 6.10% of women in the work force have had their work distroyed by fellow employees in an attempt to have them fired or often just out of spite because they are female.

7.An inestimated number of women also state that their lives are often on the line at work. They are constantly told they will be killed by men co-workers if they continue to come in each day.

8.Women tend to get injured more at work because they are often afraid to ask for help. They feel it will make them look even weaker to the men that already pick on them everyday.

.It is important that we stop treating women as if they cannot do the same jobs as men. Since it is simply not true. If a women has the proper training and support of her co-workers they will come to see that she is a valuable member of the team just like everyone else.
