A stroke occurs when blood supply to the brain is disrupted. When the brain does not receive adequate blood supply, it does not receive the oxygen that it needs to function. A stroke generally leads to brain damage. Although men are more likely than women to suffer from a stroke, a greater percentage of women will die from a stroke. Knowing the warning signs and symptoms of a stroke is a woman's best defense against serious brain damage.

Numbness

A woman suffering from a stroke will often feel numbness in different areas of the body including the face and limbs. Usually the numbness will only be on one side of the body. Confusion and Speech Impairment
During a stroke, the woman will often appear confused. Speech will be impaired, both due to the confusion and the numbness of the face.

Dizziness

While suffering a stroke, a woman may become dizzy and clumsy. Walking becomes difficult because the person is unable to balance properly.

Warning Stroke

A transient ischemic attack, also referred to as a mini-stroke, is a small stroke that does not leave any permanent brain damage. These strokes are often a sign that a larger stroke will occur in the near future.

Dealing with Symptoms

If symptoms of a stroke are present, immediate medical attention is needed. The woman must be brought to an emergency room immediately for proper care in order to prevent damage to the brain.
