Farming is a huge part of the economy. Since the beginning of time there have been farms and people that work on them every day. In more recent decades we have begun using chemicals to help the plants grow,kill bugs and for many other jobs. Storing farm chemicals correctly is important. Not only can storing farm chemicals the wrong way damage their quality it can also be harmful to people.

Always make sure all containers are clearly marked. When transferring a chemical such as pesticides you must also mark the spray container with the content. This will avoid any mix ups and prevent the chemicals form being used improperly.

Only work with chemicals in designated areas. Keeping them contained to specific places will reduce the chances of accidents occurring.

Wear a safety apron,gloves and goggles each time you move a chemical from on container to another. These will stop the chemical from splashing on your skin and in your eyes.

Never store pesticides in a building were people spend a large amount of time. The vapors can spread through the building causing illness.

Keep all chemicals stored in a secure area where livestock and other animals cannot easily access them. Most farming chemicals can be deadly if ingested.

Never store chemicals in the same area as livestock feed,seeds or other non chemical items.

Storage area should be clean and organized at all times to prevent mix ups or accidents such as spills and trips.

Post signs on any doors leading to the area where chemicals are being stored. The best signs are No smoking and Chemical Storage Area. They will warn people of the present dangers.

Using these safety tips for storing farm chemicals will help to greatly reduce illness and accidents while working in the field. All workers should be trained in the proper way to store farm chemicals before they are allowed to work with or near them.
