?Earthquakes
There are many safety measures which should be taken to prepare for earthquakes.
In the Case of an Earthquake
* If there is an earthquake when you are at home:


1. Turn off the gas.


2. Cover your head with a thick blanket or cushion and keep your body safe under a table, desk or
      door frame in order to avoid falling objects.


3. After a big earthquake, there might be other small tremors. Please stay alert. * If there is an earthquake when you are out of your home:


1. Stay away from buildings.


2. Signboards may fall. Watch your head when near buildings.


3. When in crowded places, like department stores or shopping centres, follow the instructions of the
      staff. Do not use elevators.
Safety Measures
1. Find out where the nearest shelter is.
2. Affix your furniture to the wall, if possible.

?Typhoons


Typhoons often occur, especially in August and September. Typhoon season lasts from June until October. Typhoons bring heavy rain and strong winds. Keep up with the weather warnings and stay alert when going out of your home.
  In the case of a typhoon:
1. Cover windows with thick wooden boards.
2. Take in pots and hangers from the veranda.
3. Be aware that electricity, gas and telephone services may be suspended temporarily.

?Rainy Season


The rainy season starts at the beginning of June and continues until the middle of July. Be on the alert for floods and landslides. The rainy season is very humid. Food goes bad quickly and can result in food poisoning. Be careful.

?Emergency


It is a good idea to prepare a flashlight and a portable radio in case of an emergency. Put the flashlight and the radio in a place which is easily accessible and check them periodically to ensure their batteries are good.
