Bonfire Night (also called Guy Fawkes Night), as you know, is celebrated in Britain on the 5th November every year. It is about Guy Fawkes, who plotted to kill James I of England (the King at the time). He was a Catholic and was angry with the King for reversing his decision to abolish recusancy fines (Catholics were fined for failure to go to Church of England services). He rented a cellar below the Houses of Parliament and planned to kill the King by blowing him up on 5th of November. However, the plot was uncovered and he was about to light the gunpowder that night when he was arrested and taken to the Tower of London and tortured. All the other perpetrators were caught and executed.
