Working on a construction site presents many dangers. In order to ensure a safe workplace for your employees, encourage safety at all times. Employees should follow all safety procedures, such as wearing protective gear, operating equipment correctly, avoiding cut corners, lifting heavy items correctly and observing safety rules at all times.

Put Safety in Your Planning

1.Develop a training program for all new employees. The training program should teach employees about toxic chemicals, using equipment correctly, watching for safety violations and following all safety rules. Test each employee's comprehension of the information before allowing him or her on the construction site. A worker who did not retain enough information should go through all the materials a second time.
2.Provide easy access to all safety materials, rules and regulations. Employees should have extra safety gear on the job site in case items are lost or damaged. Manuals and signage should be placed at all jobs sites to remind employees about safety.

3.Visit construction sites regularly to ensure employees are following all safety rules and standards. Employees are more likely to make sure they are doing everything correctly if they know they might get a surprise visit from the boss.
4.Organize regular safety seminars that are mandatory for employees. The seminars should communicate new safety rules and reiterate rules that are already in place. Test employees to ensure they are retaining the material.
5.Develop a reward system for for safety at the workplace. For example, employees can receive a bonus every 60 days without an accident.
