Workplace safety programs are designed to identify and eliminate hazards employees face in varied work environments. Some industries may implement safety programs to comply with federal or state government requirements. You can use many innovative methods to make safety-related information interesting and relevant. Consult your company’s human resources department to make sure your ideas are in concert with company workplace policies.

Paycheck Safety Tips
Assemble a list of workplace safety tips that address risks in your company’s work environment. Work with your payroll processing firm to insert a changing series of tips in employees' paycheck envelopes. If you have several work environments, such as offices and manufacturing facilities, vary the focus of the tips so you address all environments periodically.

Safety Trivia Contest
Generate employee interest by sponsoring a company-wide weekly safety trivia contest. Provide employees with a safety procedures manual that addresses each department’s operations. Each week, ask a different question that employees only can answer through an in-depth study of the safety manual. This contest encourages employees to learn about different departments’ safety procedures. Reward trivia contest winners with a gift card or other desirable prize.

Safety Graphics Competition
Conduct a company-wide competition in which employees design a safety poster you will distribute throughout the firm. Emphasize that artistic talent is not required to win the contest, because the graphics department or outside graphics design firm will produce the final version. Award a prize to the winning designer.

Team Safety Sweepstakes
Divide your company into departments, offices or manufacturing units. Develop a safety-themed contest in which each department finds and fixes safety-related hazards or violations. Where an immediate fix is not possible, the department will recommend a solution to management or safety professionals. Each department will receive points for each safety issue it identifies, with an overall prize at the end of the contest.

Monthly Safety Speakers
Schedule a monthly company-wide safety meeting, or multiple meetings, to accommodate shift workers and essential employees. Recruit safety-related speakers from many disciplines. Examples include an industrial safety professional, a fire safety expert or a construction safety consultant. Locate safety professionals through the American Society of Safety Engineers. Safety Engineers are company employees or consultants who have completed safety-related degree programs, and who specialize in a specific safety-related field. In the Houston area, for example, contact safety engineers who are members of the Gulf Coast chapter of the American Society of Safety Engineers.
