Tens of thousands of people are injured in forklift accidents every year, according to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). Most employee injuries are a result of unsafe operating practices, lack of training or lack of rule enforcement. OSHA requires employers to train all appropriate employees in the safe use of a forklift.

OSHA

OSHA offers a short free training course on Forklift Operation & Safety on their website (see References). Topics covered include the physics of the forklift, truck safety, information about how to operate and maintain a forklift, and information about refueling and recharging the truck. A 28-question test is included.

It includes facts about the different types of forklifts and how they work. Information on how to safely use a forklift is also provided, along with material on maintenance and how to drive in different hazardous locations. An operator's checklist is also included.
