Community Work Safety

When working in the community there are several key risks that must be considered. Community safety may not strike you as something that concerns you when dealing with workplace safety, however there are still matters to be considered when making a concerted effort to keep employees safe. Depending on the geographic area in which you and your business operate there are various factors to consider. When employing people in a city environment, work related violent acts are more prevalent in inner city workplaces. When you live in a rural area you can be less considered with things such as muggings, and keeping your employees safe 10 feet from the front door. Now in more rural areas the safety factors are still important as even rural communities have dangers and they can be similar or different than those found in a big city environment.

Community Safety Workplace Training
Regardless of your work environment it is important to keep all employees up to speed by making them aware of the dangers they face at their job. Keeping employees well informed about the dangers that face them on a day to day basis help keep these things foremost of their mind and in turn help remind them of safe practices that should be followed.

Parking Safety Examples of Community Work Safety
Unsafe Parking, Unsafe Parking Lots – How many of us have heard an unfortunate story involving parking lot safety? An employee mugged inside her own office’s parking garage. Someone returns to their car after a long day on the job just to find it has been vandalized, possibly possessions have been stolen. There are clear cut solutions to these problems. This is most common in highly trafficked areas and cities where it can be difficult to keep tabs on who belongs in an area and who does not. With employees coming and going all day long it can be a difficult decision over how to best effect changes that will keep all parties on the premise safe as well as keeping those unwanted intruders out.

1.) Have a guard or parking lot attendee on duty and on patrol at all times in your parking garage.

2.) Install proper lighting in all areas of the parking garage to ensure employees can see both their vehicles, walkways, and any potential dangers coming their way.

3.) Security cameras are your friend, though a security camera cannot leap off the wall and rush to your aid, you would be surprised at what kind of deterrent being caught on video can have to would be thieves & low lives looking to take advantage.

4.) Large parking lots – Large parking lots face a myriad of other issues involving safety that can be much more difficult to maintain and control from afar. The fact that the parking lot is so huge and open to the public is what makes it difficult to maintain safety. In this case the best thing can be to have moving vehicle patrols and ensuring a close proximity between each lamp post providing a well lit parking area.
