Workplace safety training programs are important components to running a successful business. Not only are you protecting your employees from harmful accidents, but you're also avoiding costly worker and production downtime, possible government fines and potential employee lawsuits. Many types of safety training programs are available to fit your business and industry.

National Association of Safety Professionals

National Association of Safety Professionals (NASP) offers a variety of online workplace safety training programs for employees and managers. The Licensed Safety Professional certification will teach you how to create safety programs for your business. The course will show you how to incorporate proper ergonomics into the workplace and to recognize certain physical disorders due to poor ergonomics. You'll learn the best ways to deal with hazards and emergencies, and how to analyze and document an accident. Other courses offered by NASP include Certified Safety Auditor, Accident Investigation Technician, Fire Protection/Prevention, Certified Safety Administrator and Environmental Health and Safety.

Safety Skills

Safety Skills offers online safety training courses for most industries. With each course, you'll receive a record keeping and learning management system, employee certificates of completion and a syllabus that shows which regulatory requirements are being addressed. Safety Skills is an authorized International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET) training provider, which sets standards for continuing education. Examples of available courses include Asbestos Hazardous Awareness. This class teaches the employee how to identify and minimize or eliminate asbestos hazards. The Basic Scaffold Safety course will teach you how to avoid scaffold falls and other accidents such as electrocution and scaffold collapse. The online course catalog allows you to easily find the safety course that's right for your workplace.

United Safety Council

The United Safety Council offers online and live classes that comply with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) workplace safety requirements. The OSHA 511 is a course designed to teach employees of any industry OSHA's safety and health principles and general policies, procedures and standards for the workplace. The OSHA 510 Online Course covers these same topics as they relate to the construction industry. Other online courses include Fire Safety, Bloodborne Pathogens and Hazardous Materials. The live courses are taught at the University of South Florida OSHA Training Institute Education Center. The classes range from eight to 40 hours in length, and include a multitude of topics such as Driver Performance, CPR and First Aid, Saw Safety and Proper Lifting Techniques.
