Work Related Safety Tips
Accidents can happen in any work setting, so it is important to always keep work related safety tips in mind whenever you are in the office or out in the field. Get together with others in your work place to help create a safer work environment. If the whole staff takes on the personal responsibility of work place safety, then accidents can be reduced and productivity can increase.
Information
Hold safety meetings at least once a month that review basic safety rules for the work place, what to do in case of an emergency and who to contact within the work place for more information on safety. Keep emergency phone numbers and contact information posted throughout the work place, and make sure that all safety information is updated regularly. Encourage employees to report potential safety violations, and ask employees to remind each other of their responsibility to everyone's safety.
Ladders
Ladders are common in many different kinds of work places, and it is important to be safe when using a ladder. If you are reaching for items higher up on a ladder, make sure there is someone there to steady the ladder for you. Never use a ladder that appears in need of repair, and report any faulty ladders to management immediately. Always use a ladder as instructed either by the company safety officer, or based on instructions on the ladder itself. When using a folding stepladder, make sure it is completely extended and all supports are in place before stepping on.
Exits
Be aware of where all exits are located at all times. You are familiar with the doors you use to enter and exit the building each day, but take the time to find out where the emergency exits are in case you need them.
First Aid Kit
Make sure there is a first aid kit available somewhere in the work place, and that everyone knows where the kit is located. Include items such as bandages, surgical gauze, surgical tape, sterilized pads, headache medication, antibiotic ointment, eye flush material and hydrogen peroxide.
