Some work wear clothing is designed to provide safety for the wearer. The U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Standards require some workers to wear personal protection equipment while on the job.
Hard hats
A hard hat, also known as a helmet, is worn to protect the worker's head from injuries. Construction workers and miners frequently wear hard hats as part of their uniforms. These hard hats are made of durable plastic materials and can include a face shield.
Safety eyewear
Workers wear safety eyewear to protect their eyes from a number of workplace hazards including flying objects, chemicals and tools. This eyewear includes prescription and nonprescription safety glasses and goggles. The lenses are made of glass, plastic or polycarbonate materials.
Boots
Work boots protect a worker's feet and support the ankles. Boots come in various shaft heights. Some include a steel toe or a similar nonmetallic toe to protect the foot from impact.
