A professional safety certification is a reference to the certified safety professional (CSP) certification. A CSP is an individual who is qualified to evaluate potential safety hazards in the workplace, as well as potential hazards to the environment as it relates to a product, service or function of a given company.
Identification Because of the broad range of safety-related issues, CSP certification is for someone who has general knowledge in multiple disciplines, such as math, general engineering principles, manufacturing principles and some basic behavior science.
Certification Considerations To get certified, candidates must have a two-year college degree in a safety and health discipline, plus three years of experience in a safety and health-related position. Once candidates verify they meet this criteria, they must pass two CSP exams designed to evaluate their grasp of safety and health-related applications.
Online Certifications The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulates the safety and health issues in the workplace and throughout industry. For this reason, many online training and certifying institutions offer OSHA-approved training.
