National Construction Safety Officer Certification

National Construction Safety Officer is a Canadian certification aimed at safety and health workers who wish to receive construction-focused training. The certification is issued by local construction safety associations but is valid on the Canadian national level.

Content

To be certified, students successfully complete 11 compulsory and two elective courses in, among others, health and safety, auditing, administration, instructional techniques and injury prevention. An participant must complete some of the courses before acceptance into the program and attain a first aid certification separately.

Function

Participants need at least three years of work experience in construction before applying for the program. The courses are offered at the local Construction Safety Association, and each course lasts for one to two days. Individual course fees range from $200 to $400 but are reduced significantly for association members.

Potential

Certified National Construction Safety Officers are employed by construction and engineering companies and within local and national government. They are required to train construction workers in health and safety issues, assure that construction processes are within local and national laws and liaise between their employers and regulatory bodies.
