Hse Workplace Transport Safety

Workplace transport safety, part of the Health and Safety Executive guidelines within the United Kingdom, aims to reduce transport related accidents. The HSE guidelines are designated for forklifts, compact dumpers, tractors, automobiles and large-goods vehicles that operate on public highways in the U.K.

Reasonably Practicable

Employers within the U.K. are required by law to control health and safety risks within their work environments as far as reasonably practicable. Safety and health controls are reasonably practicable if they can be implemented within the work environment at a reasonable cost.

Hazards

Reducing accidents and injuries for U.K. transport employees begins by decreasing hazardous risks within their work environment. Determining if hazards are present within the transport industry includes conducting vehicle assessments, inspecting roadways and routes and observing drivers behavior while they operate motorized vehicles.

HSE encourages U.K. transport employers to keep well-designed and maintained working environments, since this will help to reduce accidents. Some HSE recommendations for transport employers include using adequate lighting and displaying signage that is clearly visible. Segregating vehicles and pedestrians is another safety recommendation that HSE suggests to transport employers.
