How To Connect More Than Three Sets Of Christmas Lights
There is something about Christmas lights that people love. If you have a tree that is taller than 6-feet high, then you will need four strands or more to properly decorate it. Plugging more than three strands of Christmas lights together cannot only blow your fuses, but can also present a fire hazard. It is important to connect the lights properly to ensure a safe holiday season.
Instructions
1.Inspect the strands of Christmas lights for frayed wires or other damage. If you find any trouble areas, throw the light strand away and buy a new one. Plug in each strand of lights to find and replace any burned-out bulbs. If you find any burned-out bulbs, unplug the light strand before replacing.
2.Plug a power strip into an outlet near your tree or other area that you want to decorate. Do not plug anything into the other outlet because it could overheat the wiring and start a fire. Power strips have built-in breaker systems. If there is an overload, it will trip the breaker and shut off the electrical supply.
3.Plug an extension cord into the power strip. If you are decorating the tree, run the extension cord toward the top of the tree. If you are decorating outdoors, use an extension cord labeled for outdoor use.
4.Plug the first strand of Christmas lights into the extension cord. Begin decorating until you come to the end of the first string. Plug another strand into the end of the cord and continue connecting strands of lights until you have a total of three.
5.Plug another extension cord into the power strip, running it up to the section where you left off decorating. Repeat step 4. If you still need more lights, repeat steps 4 and 5. If you use up all the outlets on the power strip, plug in another power strip, but use a completely different electrical outlet.
