How To Become A Safety Consultant

Safety consultants can be an asset to companies that need help with safety programs, that need lower insurance rates or that want to ensure they provide the safest environment possible for both workers and customers. The field of safety consulting is relatively easy to become part of as long as you've got some training.

Instructions

1.Choose an industry. Safety consultants are needed in many industries and on many different kinds of job sites. Decide where you feel most comfortable: construction sites, hospitals, schools or factories, to name a few.

2.Get training. The safety training you receive should first apply to the industry that you choose to service. Although it would be advantageous professionally to gain training in many different fields, start by focusing on only 1 or 2 industries. Attend seminars and college courses for credits and training toward certification.

3.chieve certification. Once you've got your education behind you, get certified as a safety consultant. Find out which certification your preferred industry requires or requests. There are as many different types of certifications as there are industries in which to work as a safety consultant.
4.Join the IASP. The International Association of Safety Professionals can help you stay current on new safety laws, certification requirements and educational resources. The IASP also offers job listings, seminars and help with starting your own consulting business.
5.Distribute your resume. Be sure to check the employment ads and online job search websites to see if local employers in your preferred industry are in need of a safety consultant. Mail, fax or personally deliver your resume to potential employers, making sure to follow up within a week
