First Aid Supplies & Safety Resources

Because accidents happen, many people choose to prepare by having a first aid kit on hand. There are a variety of supplies that should be included in a first aid kit, which should be as compact as possible so that it's easy to store and carry.

Bandages

One of the most basic first aid supplies is bandages. Consider having bandages of different sizes available, including small bandages for insect bites and large wraparound bandages to help heal larger wounds.

Basic Medications

Another essential first aid kit item is basic medications, such as pain relievers, antihistamines and fever reducers. Antihistamines quell the effects of allergic reactions, such as hives or swelling from exposure to poison ivy. Consider packing several types of pain relievers, such as aspirin, acetaminophen and ibuprofen.

Sunscreen and Aloe Vera

Sunscreen and aloe vera can be helpful additions to first aid kits designed for hiking or boating. A sunburn can be very painful and even cause a person to become ill. Sunscreen will prevent this from happening, but if a sunburn does occur, the aloe vera will help cool down the skin and alleviate the pain of the burn. It will also help speed healing.

Irrigation Syringe

An irrigation syringe is another helpful tool to have in a first aid kit. This syringe does not have a needle; it is used to force water into a small space, helping to clean open wounds or flush irritants out of the eyes.
