A lab is a room that allows students to experiment and conduct scientific research. Typically this is done in a science laboratory. Most of the time a teacher or a professor is facilitating the lab so that a more professional and experienced person can be present.

In some labs risk factors are extremely higher than others. Science labs have many hazards such as poisons, chemicals, flammable explosives, and infectious agents. Also, people who are in the lab may sometimes encounter higher temperatures and moving equipment.

The rules in the lab are important to help users stay safe. Normally the safety rules are posted throughout the facility. Safety attire is also provided for the room to prevent any accidental spills are splashes in your eyes.

Occupational safety and health administration (OSHA) developed the "Safety Standard." Each lab must contain information about the Chemical hygiene plan (CHP); the plan helps users locate chemical hazards in their work area and how to deal with them when necessary.

CHP must be reviewed every year to make sure that the plan is continuously meeting standards. Schools and Businesses employ people in this area so that they can asset CHP. Inspections in labs are routine. The purpose of these inspections is to make sure that hazards are being asset correctly and also to make sure that all chemicals and flammable products are being stored in proper containers and compartments. Facilitators are constantly being trained to reduce and eliminate accidents in the laboratory.
Hot Plates
When using a hot plate, make sure that your hair and articles of clothing aren't dangling. Hot plates stay extremely hot for a long time, so it's important to use tongs are heat protected gloves to pick-up the beaker. Never touch any chemicals with your fingers! Remember to report any and all accidents as soon as possible to the laboratory facilitator.

Most importantly wear the proper attire: lab coat, goggles, gloves, and closed toe shoes.
