Several universities now offer programs to teach this subject to the upcoming leaders in the field.
University of Denver The University of Denver's College of Professional and Continuing Studies offers a program that allows students to earn a master's degree in the field of Environmental Health and Safety through online and evening classes. The program emphasizes the business aspect of environmental health and safety, as well as ways to manage worker safety and health, governmental regulations regarding worker and public health and safety, and systems for reporting problems and issues related to environmental health and safety. Applicants to the program must submit an application form, a resume, an application fee, two letters of recommendation, official transcripts from postsecondary institutions they've atended and a degree plan that the applicant creates with the help of a department adviser.
University of Connecticut The University of Connecticut's Labor Education Center administers the Occupational and Environmental Safety and Health program. This program offers graduate and undergraduate courses toward a degree in Environmental Health and Safety through the UConn College of Continuing Studies. Students register for the courses they will need for their degree through the School of Allied Health. These courses will give students with the necessary skills to function as environmental health and safety professionals in a variety of work environments and industries. As part of the degree course of study, the classes prepare students to take the Certified Safety Professional (CSP) examination and receive CSP certification as an environmental health and safety expert.

Columbia Southern University Columbia Southern University in Alabama offers an associate degree in Environmental Health and Safety for students who complete the required 60 semester hours of general studies, technical courses and electives. The Board of Certified Safety Professionals recognizes Columbia Southern University's associate degree and graduates may become members of the CSP. Applicants should provide proof of their previous studies degree in technology, science or engineering or transcripts that detail their previous studies. Columbia Southern University's Environmental Health and Safety program will also consider applicants who provide proof of five years of relevant work experience.
