Checklist For Safety

Home safety is very important, especially when you live in a bad area or you have children. There are many things that you can do to make your home safer so that you will feel more secure knowing that someone will not be breaking into your home while you are there or not.

Doors and Windows

Make sure that all doors and windows are secure with locks and sticks or an alarm system so that nobody can break in. If you have little kids who like to try and get outside, a stick will prevent them from being able to open the door. From the outside, if someone tries to break in, they will have to break the door or window to get through.

In Case of a Fire

Be sure to check the batteries in your smoke detectors regularly to make sure they are in good repair. Be sure to have an exit strategy in case of a fire. If you live in a high-rise apartment be sure that the fire escape is in good working order. Make sure that everyone in the home knows what the escape route is so that nobody gets left behind.

Chemicals

If you have children or pets, be sure all the chemicals used for cleaning or for outdoor use are kept in a safe place away from the reach of children and pets. Ingesting these can be deadly.

Stranger Danger

It is very important to be aware of all people in your area, whether you have kids or you live alone. When answering the door, ask them to identify themselves first before opening the door, and never invite them in if you don't know them. It is also perfectly acceptable to ask for identification.
