An Earthquake Survival Kit List
If you live in an earthquake-prone area, you know that disaster can strike on short notice. Because you can never predict how severe an earthquake will be, or how long you might be without essentials like power and water, have an earthquake survival kit ready in your home and car. Aim to have enough supplies to last at least 72 hours.
Basic Supplies
Every family should create a kit that contains one gallon of water per person per day, as well as a three-day supply of nonperishable food. Other essentials include a battery-powered or hand-crank radio, extra batteries, a flashlight, a first-aid kit, a whistle, a dust mask, a wrench or pliers, a manual can opener, local maps, garbage bags, plastic ties and moist towelettes. Also stash an extra cellphone charger, inverter or solar charger.

Think about special items that your family might need. If you have an infant, invest in extra diapers and formula, as well as wipes and bottles; for pets, keep dog or cat food in your supply kit. If anyone in your family needs medication, add extras -- but keep an eye on the expiration date.
